Even robust radar level transmitters can fail due to misuse. Here’s how to diagnose and resolve issues quickly.
Issue 1: No Signal/Weak Signal
Causes:
Dirty antenna (dust, condensation).
Low dielectric constant (ε<1.4).
Solutions:
Clean the antenna with isopropyl alcohol.
Switch to an 80GHz model for low-ε media.
Issue 2: Erratic Readings
Causes:
Obstructions (agitators, heating coils).
Foam/vapor interference.
Solutions:
Reposition the transmitter.
Enable “false echo suppression” or increase damping time.
Issue 3: Inaccurate Measurements
Causes:
Incorrect dielectric constant setting.
Misconfigured blind zone.
Solutions:
Re-enter the ε value (check MSDS).
Adjust blind zone via HART communicator.
Issue 4: “Echo Lost” Error
Causes:
Empty tank (level below blind zone).
Blocked antenna.
Solutions:
Verify minimum liquid level.
Remove obstructions (ice, deposits).
Issue 5: Communication Failure
Causes:
Corroded/wet cable connections.
Unstable power supply.
Solutions:
Seal connectors with waterproof tape.
Ensure stable 24VDC power input.
Pro Tips:
Clean antennas monthly; calibrate quarterly.
Choose IP68-rated devices for humid areas.
